Military service

What aircraft work taught me

Think ahead. Take the time to do it correctly. Those lessons have followed me into every kind of work since.

Technical school trained me as an aircraft hydraulics specialist, 2A6X5. After that came work on the KC-135, temporary-duty assignments and an eight-month deployment during my three years of military service.

In Qatar, the work included long days, night shifts, sandstorms and severe rain. The setting could change, but the need to pay attention did not.

The lesson I carry with me is to consider what an action could affect before taking it. Procedures such as lockout/tagout made that responsibility very clear. Slow down enough to understand the job, then do it correctly.
